2023 - Annual Round up (Hindi)

As far as music is concerned, I personally felt 2023 was a pretty solid year. The remake song trend was much less compared to previous years. I initially decided to select around 30 odd songs for this list. However I ended up with 50 songs. This list also consists of some beautiful songs which hardly anyone heard, owing to various reasons like the film's poor marketing and failure, etc. The aim of this post is to celebrate the best music of 2023, and to also make people aware of the unheard / underrated music of 2023.   ARTIST OF THE YEAR The usual stalwarts like Arijit Singh and Pritam took a backseat for me as one of the OG's re-emerged in 2023. I am talking about SONU NIGAM. This was his year. The sad part is he sang so many beautiful songs which went totally unnoticed. I have included many of them in this list too.  LINK TO THE SPOTIFY PLAYLIST - CLICK HERE   1.                ...

MUSIC REVIEW : DIL BECHARA

It has been a while since Rahman has had two consecutive hindi releases - the first being "99 Songs" which was a beautiful album and which improved my lockdown because there was an album which was released entirely unlike the trend of releasing singles these days. "Dil Bechara" is a special film mainly because we will be seeing Late Sushant Singh Rajput for the last time in a new film. On paper, this movie has a lot of scope for music. However it remains to be seen how well does debut director & well known casting director Mukesh Chhabra picturise and place the songs. The TITLE SONG immediately transported me back to 2007 when "Jaane tu ya jaane na" released. That film's jazzy title song was similar in a way. The song is instantly catchy and ARR sings this one in his typical style. He is excellent in the antara. Backing him up with hinglish lyrics is Amitabh Bhattacharya who writes some cheesy lyrics but they are in sync with the colle...

MUSIC REVIEW : DANGAL

Aamir Khan and Pritam’s last collaboration was not exactly a masterpiece. But with what looks like a winner from the “Chillar Party” director, let us see what Pritam has in store for us this time. “ HAANIKAARAK BAPU ” is a lyrical as well musical gem which oozes with creativity. Everything about this song seems apt. Firstly, Pritam dishes out a very catchy Rajasthani folk tune topping it with a rock feel. The tune itself along with the arrangements is a winner. Secondly, the two singers – Sarwar Khan & Sartaz Khan Barna are fabulous. Be it their perfectly-in-tune rendition or their prose portions, they are terrific. The chorus portions are very good too. But the real winner of the song is Amitabh Bhattacharya. Listen to every single word of the song carefully and you will realize what potential he has. His lyrics are awesome. They are highly humorous and very innovative. You can’t help but marvel at his witty words. They make you smile at times, laugh out loud a...

MUSIC REVIEW : DEAR ZINDAGI

“English Vinglish” was a lovely film. Infact, it was one of the finest films to have come out in recent years from Bollywood. Debutantè director Gauri Shinde managed to tug all the right emotional chords with a gem of a movie. So in a way it is not incorrect to have huge expectations from her second directorial outing, especially with a stellar leading cast. Also, since the different “TAKES” of the movie have started coming out, there is a lot of freshness and positive vibe in all of them. Be it the camaraderie between Alia Bhatt and SRK or the lovely music, everything about this movie seems right. Let us have a look at the soundtrack of the film.    “ LOVE YOU ZINDAGI ” is vintage Amit Trivedi. Right from the moment the opening music plays, you know that this song will put you at ease. To add to the innocence, we have Jasleen Kaur Royal doing the vocals with her trademark cute voice. She is so apt for the song, the setting as well as Alia’s character. The ...
