MUSIC REVIEW : SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE

Sachin and Jigar have had a wonderful year uptil now. First the awesome ABCD, then the wacky Go Goa Gone and then the simple Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Now they make a BIG leap as they bag a Yashraj movie. With the promos smelling totally fresh, let us take a look at the music of the movie. "Tere mere beech mein" holds your attention from the first second. We are treated to a collage of sounds- boys echoing "dado mujhe de chhokro", the hustle bustle of traffic, that cycle ki ghanti and that rickshaw ka bhopu backed by nice guitar riffs. There is a sweet whistle playing too. Finally all these sounds give way to Sunidhi Chauhan's voice. Along with Mohit Chauhan, she sings this dialogue-like song with finesse. Mohit lends ample support, his voice sounding good as always, especially in the higher notes. But for the first time he is not the dominating singer. It is Sunidhi who owns the song and Mohit who pitches in at regular intervals- an arrangement for which the comp...

MUSIC REVIEW : YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is an album and movie I am eagerly looking forward to. Firstly it is directed by Ayan Mukerjee whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with before his debut movie released, and secondly because his first movie “Wake up Sid” is one of my all time favorite movies. This time instead of SEL and Amit Trivedi, he ropes in Pritam to compose the music. “BADTAMEEZ DIL” is instant chartbuster material. Right from the immensely catchy tune to the superb singing by Benny Dayal and Shefali Alvaris, the song will appeal instantly. The USP however is the fabulous lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. They are hilarious, innovative and deserve applause. Notice how he intelligently uses the phrase “Gilli Gilli Akkha” from the old song “Yeh Jawaani hai deewani”. Add to that Ranbir Kapoor’s Shammi Kapoor like dance and we have a winner on our hands.   “BALAM PICHKAARI” is one more hell of a catchy song. This time Shalmali Kholgade and Vishal Dadl...

MUSIC REVIEW COCKTAIL

What has suddenly befallen pritam? Churning out massive hits one after the other. Well, my expectations from cocktail were humongous. With the two promo tracks making me crazy, i was looking forward to a cracker of an album. Does he deliver? Let's find out. *TUM HI HO BANDHU* the track which is already a sensation everywhere sees the very soulful kavita seth trying a new genre. And she aces it. One thing i loved about this song was the female lead's dominance over the male lead neeraj shridhar. It's good to see pritam do this, especially after composing all male singer dominated albums for the bhatts. The loop by neeraj is flawless. And so is the track. *DAARU DESI* starts with some nice guitar strings before benny dayal and shalmali 'pareshaan' kholgade take over. Average lyrics, some really good singing by both the singers and a really good tune with some addictive beats. This song again has already become a huge hit. Drums initiate the song *YAARIYAAN* sung b...

Ishaqzaade music review

If there is anyone today who can remotely come near to a.r rahman in terms of uniqueness, melody and quality, it is amit trivedi. ISHAQZAADE begins in an UDAAN-ish way, before javed ali takes over. A decent tune, and as usual, top notch singing, this track, i felt, has a similar layout to AAHATEIN (EMET). Shreya ghoshal joins javed in the last minute, and does a good job. CHHOKRA JAWAAN- clearly this duo of vishal and sunidhi chauhan is one of the best in present times. My reaction to the initial one minute was okay.i found the song just average.but as the song progressed, things got better. A gentle and well done change in the tempo in between, and then returning to the original tempo- LOVED IT. And the beats- aah. Pure garba and dandiya material. Vishal and sunidhi were clearly having a BALL out there, as they sing the song brilliantly, especially the jugalbandhi in between. My personal favorite, and the favorite of almost everyone, PARESHAN, sung by shalmali kholgade is Pure AW...
