It has been a while since Rahman has had two consecutive hindi releases - the first being "99 Songs" which was a beautiful album and which improved my lockdown because there was an album which was released entirely unlike the trend of releasing singles these days. "Dil Bechara" is a special film mainly because we will be seeing Late Sushant Singh Rajput for the last time in a new film. On paper, this movie has a lot of scope for music. However it remains to be seen how well does debut director & well known casting director Mukesh Chhabra picturise and place the songs. The TITLE SONG immediately transported me back to 2007 when "Jaane tu ya jaane na" released. That film's jazzy title song was similar in a way. “English Vinglish” was a lovely film. Infact, it was one of the finest films to have come out in recent years from Bollywood. Debutantè director Gauri Shinde managed to tug all the right emotional chords with a gem of a movie. So in a way it is not incorrect to have huge expectations from her second directorial outing, especially with a stellar leading cast. Also, since the different “TAKES” of the movie have started coming out, there is a lot of freshness and positive vibe in all of them. Be it the camaraderie between Alia Bhatt and SRK or the lovely music, everything about this movie seems right. After the successful Tanu weds Manu, the trio of Aanand Rai - Krsna - Raj Shekhar is back to enthrall us. Let us see how they fare. “BANNO” is composed by guest composers Tanishk – Vayu. A folk number to the core, this one is a superb amalgamation of Punjabi and techno beats. Sung wonderfully by Brijesh Shandilya and Swati Sharma, the line “Banno tera swagger laage sexy (saxy)” is indeed a lyrical gem. Lyricist Vayu is the star of this song. The way he includes words like “swagger” and “sexy” in an out and out dance song is praiseworthy! This can very much be titled the “Saddi galli” of the sequel. From here on, Krsna takes charge of the remaining album. “MOVE ON” is a unique song. Its title is self explanatory, and Sunidhi’s voice has the much needed aggressiveness. After "Ajab prem ki ghazab kahaani", the team of Rajkumar Santoshi and Pritam return with PPNH. While the former had some great music, I somehow listen to this soundtrack with slightly reduced expectations- blame it on the slapstick trailer, its similarity to APKGK or the absence of Ranbir Kapoor. Let us take a look at the soundtrack. "AGAL BAGAL" sees Mika in full form. Having mastered such songs, this one rises one step further owing to a catchy tune, very funny lyrics and an innovative video. There is also some nice use of harmonium(?), guitar and some really good interludes between the antaras. Massy, entertaining and catchy, this one is sure to set your feet tapping. "HEY MR DJ" is sung by Benny Dayal, Shefali Alvares and Shalmali Kholgade. Included as a pure club number, this one has a heavy hangover of "Latt lag gayi" from Race 2. Sachin and Jigar have had a wonderful year uptil now. First the awesome ABCD, then the wacky Go Goa Gone and then the simple Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Now they make a BIG leap as they bag a Yashraj movie. With the promos smelling totally fresh, let us take a look at the music of the movie. "Tere mere beech mein" holds your attention from the first second. We are treated to a collage of sounds- boys echoing "dado mujhe de chhokro", the hustle bustle of traffic, that cycle ki ghanti and that rickshaw ka bhopu backed by nice guitar riffs. There is a sweet whistle playing too. Finally all these sounds give way to Sunidhi Chauhan's voice. Along with Mohit Chauhan, she sings this dialogue-like song with finesse. Mohit lends ample support, his voice sounding good as always, especially in the higher notes. But for the first time he is not the dominating singer. Horror is not a genre Vishal Bhardwaj is exploring for the first time. He gave us the lovely childrens’ horror film “Makdee” few years back. This time however he only produces this one rather than directing it too. From the two trailers released till now, it is clear that this one is damn scary. Let us see what kind of music this movie offers – after all, it is again the magical Vishal – Gulzar duo at work. And we even have Suresh Wadkar this time. “YAARAM” belongs to those beautiful romantic tracks Vishal Bhardwaj composes. With Sunidhi Chauhan at her melodious best and a soulful rendition by Clinton Cerejo, this one has a superb tune backed by some excellent arrangements. The real star of the song is the lyrics. Now the lyrics are definitely oscar material. Infact few people might love the use of such words which we use in daily life, while few might cringe at the lyrics. Special 26 is indeed a special movie for many reasons – firstly it marks the second film of director Neeraj Pandey who gave us the impeccable “A Wednesday”. Secondly after a long LOOOONG time we will see Akshay Kumar in a lead role which is different from the stupid characters he has played in his last few movies. (Well except OMG where he wasn’t in the lead.) With a superb ensemble of actors like Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpai and Jimmy Sheirgill, one still has doubts as to what the film’s soundtrack would offer. Even “A Wednesday” had not a single song (It didn’t need one) except a promo video song which very few people would have heard. With M.M Kreem as the music director, one is definitely curious as to what is in store for us. “TUJH SANG LAGEE” starts off with M.M Kreem’s melodious voice. And even today, she has one of the biggest fan followings among all bollywood actresses. She won the hearts of everyone with some power packed performances.
