Aamir Khan and Pritam’s last collaboration was not exactly a masterpiece. But with what looks like a winner from the “Chillar Party” director, let us see what Pritam has in store for us this time. “ HAANIKAARAK BAPU ” is a lyrical as well musical gem which oozes with creativity. Everything about this song seems apt. Firstly, Pritam dishes out a very catchy Rajasthani folk tune topping it with a rock feel. The tune itself along with the arrangements is a winner. Secondly, the two singers – Sarwar Khan & Sartaz Khan Barna are fabulous. Be it their perfectly-in-tune rendition or their prose portions, they are terrific. The chorus portions are very good too. But the real winner of the song is Amitabh Bhattacharya. Listen to every single word of the song carefully and you will realize what potential he has. His lyrics are awesome. Looking at their current form, Sachin and Jigar are one of the most successful composers in the last year. After the immensely well made “Happy Ending” and “Badlapur” and a top notch Gujarati album “Bey Yaar”, they gave us a brilliant episode of MTV unplugged and then finally Coke Studio and LAADKI. It remains to be seen how they fare with ABCD 2 as they team up the third time with Remo D’souza. The first movie had a highly successful run at the music charts. Let us see how the sequel fares. “BEZUBAAN PHIR SE” is aptly titled. The composers re utilize their most successful song from ABCD. This time however, the honey voiced Mohit Chauhan is replaced by a full throttled Vishal Dadlani. And he completely owns the song. The rap portions as well as the other parts are sung brilliantly by him. Joining him is Madhav Krishna who floors you with his rendition of the title loop. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is synonymous with fantastic music. Rang De Basanti and then Delhi 6 were massive blockbusters. This time however Mehra opts for Shankar Ehsaan and Loy instead of A.R Rahman. Let us see what the trio presents to us. Mehra is known for including a short musical/lyrical piece in the soundtracks of his movies. First there was “Ik Onkar” in RDB and then there was “NOOR” in Delhi 6. Here we have “GURBAANI” – a lovely short prayer like piece sung by Daler Mehndi. And boy, Daler paaji rocks. I have always held the opinion that both Daler and his brother Mika sing such songs very well. It is a pity that we get to hear them most often in Punjabi dance numbers. Gurbaani’s short duration of 1.40 minutes is enough to showcase Daler mehndi’s scale range of singing. He is simply brilliant. But the winner is the fab arrangement by the composer trio. “KAAFIRANA” is composed by guest composer Gaurav Dagaonkar (of the song College Days fame) who recently composed a song or two in vikram bhatt’s film “Lanka”. It is disgusting as to what heights the makers of this film are going to promote this song. The entire controversy about FAKHT and JUST is irritating and pointless. Coming back to the song, I expected something out of this world as it had “ THE” Chitrangada featuring in it. But the song is a big disappointment. It has nothing new to offer, only adding itself to the countless boring item songs this year. But if you consider silly beats and a beaten-to-death-tune as a rocking song, then you will like it. For me, I’d grudgingly listen to it only because the accompanying video features chitrangada. However, I’d prefer ALIVA and TAJ MAHAL CHAI ( maan gaye saif ) to this song anyday.
