Tanu weds Manu was a very special film – the earthiness of the movie, the lead actors’ very natural acting and most importantly the music. What an album it was – wedding song, a romantic song, a semi classical song, and that piece of awesomeness which we know today as “RANGREZZ”. So it is just natural to expect a LOT from Aanand Rai’s 3 rd bollywood outing. As if that was not enough, he ropes in A.R Rahman to compose the music for Raanjhanaa. Inspite of the bubbly trailer, one isn’t quite sure what exactly to expect from the soundtrack of Gippi. But hopes are sufficiently high because the music has been done by Vishal – Shekhar, who have an impressive record with Karan Johar (Dostana, I hate Luv Storys). “WE ARE LIKE THIS ONLY” is a literal translation of the common hindi line “Hum toh aise hai bhaiyya”. With lyrics by Vishal Dadlani, this song has “Vishal Shekhar” written all over it. The song begins with a rather intriguing instrumental loop. What follows next is some rap by Hard Kaur mingled with Vishal’s singing. As I said, standard typical song from Vishal Shekhar. Nothing great, but catchy, peppy and foot tapping. “PEHN DI TAKKI” is even more typical. A tune which gives the feeling of “I have heard something like this before”, Vishal sings this one nicely. “Run of the mill” has never been Rohan Sippy’s genre. Baring Kuch na kaho, all his other films have been bizarre and different. The same thing goes for his soundtracks. While “Kuch na kaho” had the most normal OST of all his films, “Dum maaro dum” had a lovely mix of romantic songs and club numbers. But it was “Bluffmaster” which had the most bizarre OST of all. With a few original songs by Vishal Shekhar, Rohan collaborated with a number of artists, put in some remixes, few instrumental themes and created an album which was very different from the usual stuff. “Nautanki Saala” treads on the same lines as “Bluffmaster”. It has various composers pitching in with a song or two. Let us see how good the album is. “MERA MANN” is a soft simple romantic track written, composed and sung by Pakistani singer Falak Shabir.
