So after an unpardonable delay, here I am with my list of favorite songs of 2014. Thank god I put it up on my blog before 2015 ended. If we look at entire albums, here are my favorite albums. These are albums whose all songs I love – 1.        Highway – This is vintage Rahman. Plus there is Imtiaz Ali to give you breathtaking Himachal along with the songs. 2.        Happy ending – Raj and Dk always manage to extract the best out of Sachin – Jigar. There is an unusual addictiveness in this album which makes it un-put-downable. Very versatile album. 3.        Queen – This is Amit Trivedi at his very best. Once again a very creative and lovely album. The best part of the album was it complemented the film very well. The songs fitted well in the film, never seeming forced or unnecessary. Now the original “Aashiqui” was nothing out of the world. It featured actors who are not even seen these days. And the much talked about “cult” music too was nothing great. True it showcased Nadeem Shravan’s ability to dip songs in tragedy and melody and serve us an album which over the years has gained maximum popularity among heartbroken lovers and rickshaw drivers. However knowing the amount of “lifting” Nadeem Shravan did, I trust Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari and Jeet Ganguli more. “TUM HI HO” is undoubtedly the best song of the album. “ABHI ABHI” sees K.K in his usual avatar, this time however he sounds soft at times and very melodious than his usual slightly sharp voice. The song begins with a tune similar to “aahatein” (agnee), but soon develops into a wonderful bhatt-ish tune. Overall, soothing and nice. Dr arko pravo mukherjee does a good job as composer. He even writes the lyrics along with munish makhija. The duet version sees shreya ghoshal attempting a very low scale. Even then, she is good as usual, and the duet is equally good as the solo. “DARTA HOON” is sung by Pakistani band “Rushk”. A dark, sombre and haunting song, this one is definitely good, but will take time to be liked. A slightly situational song, it will have its own audience. “HEY WALLA” is sung by Maldives singer unoosha and composed by abdul baasith saaed. In one word, it is horrible. Total crap.
