After "Ajab prem ki ghazab kahaani", the team of Rajkumar Santoshi and Pritam return with PPNH. While the former had some great music, I somehow listen to this soundtrack with slightly reduced expectations- blame it on the slapstick trailer, its similarity to APKGK or the absence of Ranbir Kapoor. Let us take a look at the soundtrack. "AGAL BAGAL" sees Mika in full form. Having mastered such songs, this one rises one step further owing to a catchy tune, very funny lyrics and an innovative video. There is also some nice use of harmonium(?), guitar and some really good interludes between the antaras. Massy, entertaining and catchy, this one is sure to set your feet tapping. "HEY MR DJ" is sung by Benny Dayal, Shefali Alvares and Shalmali Kholgade. Included as a pure club number, this one has a heavy hangover of "Latt lag gayi" from Race 2. “Run of the mill” has never been Rohan Sippy’s genre. Baring Kuch na kaho, all his other films have been bizarre and different. The same thing goes for his soundtracks. While “Kuch na kaho” had the most normal OST of all his films, “Dum maaro dum” had a lovely mix of romantic songs and club numbers. But it was “Bluffmaster” which had the most bizarre OST of all. With a few original songs by Vishal Shekhar, Rohan collaborated with a number of artists, put in some remixes, few instrumental themes and created an album which was very different from the usual stuff. “Nautanki Saala” treads on the same lines as “Bluffmaster”. It has various composers pitching in with a song or two. Let us see how good the album is. “MERA MANN” is a soft simple romantic track written, composed and sung by Pakistani singer Falak Shabir. I have an unwritten rule while reviewing albums on my blog – To never review an album which has music by “Sajid Wajid”. They are the unbashed rulers of mediocrity (which has plummeted to new lows this year.) I mean, just have a look at the quality and even quantity of music they have given this year – Housefull 2 (Bad), Tezz (Bad), Rowdy Rathore (Bad), Teri meri Kahaani (Average), Kamaal dhamaal malamaal (Horrible), Ishkq in paris (Horrible), Ajab Gazabb love (Bad), Son of Sardar (Blah) – every album smells of repetitiveness and a zero in the creative and novelty department. However I make exceptions when salman khan is associated with sajid wajid. Reason? Well, they have a fairly good record with bhai. Starting from “Pyaar kiya toh darna kya” to “Ek tha tiger”, sajid wajid have given good (If not awesome), melodious and popular massy music for their godfather. “HALKAT JAWANI” is prototype of salim sulaiman’s recent works – taking a mediocre tune and adding some good innovative background music to make it an above average product. The singing by sunidhi chauhan is good as she sings it with aplomb. As I said earlier, the arrangements are very good. Overall, it is an okay-ish song according to salim sulaiman standards, which will ironically work the most among all the other songs. “SAAIYAAN”: Rahat Fateh ali khan returns after a brief absence from the music scene and produces an absolute gem. His singing is superb. Salim sulaiman’s tune is soothing and lovely. The use of violin and dholak is awesome. However the resemblance to Yeh honsla (DOR) is unmistakable. Yet, this is a fine song. Expectations are humungous as the team of emraan-pritam-bhatt returns. In fact it is the team of emraan pritam and kunal deshmukh, whose previous both films- Jannat and Tum Mile have had brilliant music, me being a big fan of the latter. TU HI MERA sees pritam rope in shafqat amanat ali. Right from the initial guitar strings,you can experience the bhatt-ness. Pritam's tune is somewhere similar to his previous tracks,although i cant figure out which ones. Maybe pee loon. Thankfully,he doesn't keep the beats similar to pee loon,instead increases the tempo. That works! Great singing,as usual. This one is already making its way to the top of the charts. TERA DEEDAR HUA- i just cant get enough of this man. He is already having a fantastic year, with chaahat (blood money) being a really well sung song.
