Looking at their current form, Sachin and Jigar are one of the most successful composers in the last year. After the immensely well made “Happy Ending” and “Badlapur” and a top notch Gujarati album “Bey Yaar”, they gave us a brilliant episode of MTV unplugged and then finally Coke Studio and LAADKI. It remains to be seen how they fare with ABCD 2 as they team up the third time with Remo D’souza. The first movie had a highly successful run at the music charts. Let us see how the sequel fares. “BEZUBAAN PHIR SE” is aptly titled. The composers re utilize their most successful song from ABCD. This time however, the honey voiced Mohit Chauhan is replaced by a full throttled Vishal Dadlani. And he completely owns the song. The rap portions as well as the other parts are sung brilliantly by him. Joining him is Madhav Krishna who floors you with his rendition of the title loop. So after an unpardonable delay, here I am with my list of favorite songs of 2014. Thank god I put it up on my blog before 2015 ended. If we look at entire albums, here are my favorite albums. These are albums whose all songs I love – 1.        Highway – This is vintage Rahman. Plus there is Imtiaz Ali to give you breathtaking Himachal along with the songs. 2.        Happy ending – Raj and Dk always manage to extract the best out of Sachin – Jigar. There is an unusual addictiveness in this album which makes it un-put-downable. Very versatile album. 3.        Queen – This is Amit Trivedi at his very best. Once again a very creative and lovely album. The best part of the album was it complemented the film very well. The songs fitted well in the film, never seeming forced or unnecessary. Raj and DK are back again with their 4 th venture. After the success of “Go Goa Gone”, they team up once again with Saif Ali Khan and Illuminati films. Sachin Jigar have had a phenomenal record with the director duo. Saibo was their career – turning song, and then with “Go goa Gone”, they created one of the wackiest and craziest soundtracks ever! So naturally, expectations are sky high with the soundtrack of “Happy Ending”. The promos suggest this to be a fun film. And with Saif and Govinda, it is quite obvious. “MILEYA MILEYA” is a breezy and lovely track. With some beautiful arrangements, the song entices us right from the beginning. With a catchy beat and claps, Priya Andrews starts the song. She is soon joined by (Surprise surprise!) Rekha Bhardwaj in a never-heard-before avatar. Sachin and Jigar have had a wonderful year uptil now. First the awesome ABCD, then the wacky Go Goa Gone and then the simple Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Now they make a BIG leap as they bag a Yashraj movie. With the promos smelling totally fresh, let us take a look at the music of the movie. "Tere mere beech mein" holds your attention from the first second. We are treated to a collage of sounds- boys echoing "dado mujhe de chhokro", the hustle bustle of traffic, that cycle ki ghanti and that rickshaw ka bhopu backed by nice guitar riffs. There is a sweet whistle playing too. Finally all these sounds give way to Sunidhi Chauhan's voice. Along with Mohit Chauhan, she sings this dialogue-like song with finesse. Mohit lends ample support, his voice sounding good as always, especially in the higher notes. But for the first time he is not the dominating singer. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is synonymous with fantastic music. Rang De Basanti and then Delhi 6 were massive blockbusters. This time however Mehra opts for Shankar Ehsaan and Loy instead of A.R Rahman. Let us see what the trio presents to us. Mehra is known for including a short musical/lyrical piece in the soundtracks of his movies. First there was “Ik Onkar” in RDB and then there was “NOOR” in Delhi 6. Here we have “GURBAANI” – a lovely short prayer like piece sung by Daler Mehndi. And boy, Daler paaji rocks. I have always held the opinion that both Daler and his brother Mika sing such songs very well. It is a pity that we get to hear them most often in Punjabi dance numbers. Gurbaani’s short duration of 1.40 minutes is enough to showcase Daler mehndi’s scale range of singing. He is simply brilliant. But the winner is the fab arrangement by the composer trio. Very rarely there comes a movie which tugs your heart even before it has released. “Kai Po che” is one such film. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel “The 3 mistakes of my life”, I am BADLY looking forward to it, mainly because – It is directed by Abhishek Kapoor whose last film “Rock on” was a brilliant one – classy and one of my all time favorites. The film is based in my state GUJARAT , and it is indeed a proud feeling believe me; seeing the picturesque locales of Diu and other places. The first trailer of the film – it was everything I had expected – reminiscent of Dil chahta hai in a big way. It is one of the finest trailers to have come out in a long time. Sushant Singh Rajput – even a trailer and two video songs are enough to know that the guy can act and emote marvelously. AND LASTLY – “AMIT TRIVEDI” . Enough said. “MAANJHA” is pure heaven. If there is anyone today who can remotely come near to a.r rahman in terms of uniqueness,melody and quality, it is amit trivedi. ISHAQZAADE begins in an UDAAN-ish way, before javed ali takes over. A decent tune, and as usual, top notch singing, this track, i felt, has a similar layout to AAHATEIN (EMET). Shreya ghoshal joins javed in the last minute, and does a good job. CHHOKRA JAWAAN- clearly this duo of vishal and sunidhi chauhan is one of the best in present times. My reaction to the initial one minute was okay.i found the song just average.but as the song progressed,things got better. A gentle and well done change in the tempo in between, and then returning to the original tempo- LOVED IT. And the beats- aah. Pure garba and dandiya material. Vishal and sunidhi were clearly having a BALL out there, as they sing the song brilliantly, especially the jugalbandhi in between.
