MUSIC REVIEW : D-DAY

Nikhil Advani is one of those rare directors whose films have always boasted of brilliant music – Kal ho na ho, Salaam-e-ishq, and the recent Patiala House. Even Chandni Chowk to China had the gorgeous “Tere naina”. In short, his movies have always had quality chartbuster stuff. And the people responsible for this have always been the same – Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. D-Day looks very promising from its promos. However, one doesn’t know what really to expect from the music, as there seems less scope for music here. Yet, let us take a look at the album of D-Day. DUMA DUM gets one more version, this time in the voice of Mika Singh. What is with this song that it is getting so many remakes? No doubt it is a great song, but there is always a tolerance limit. And that has been reached. Earlier this year, even David had a version in the voice of Rekha Bhardwaj. Coming to the song, it is good. Mika does a good job with the vocals. But that’s it. I would prefer the original versi...

AALAAP : MUSIC REVIEW

“PAA PARAA PAA” is a fun track, as it talks about a student – teacher interaction and college life. Lyrics are by mohan himself. A purely situational song, this song starts off well, but it is the antara that makes it better, especially the “Ruu ruu ruu” chorus. Singing by nikhil D’souza, bonnie chakraborty and dhruv shrikent is good. A lot depends on how this song is picturized. It might do wonders if picturized and promoted well. MANDATORY ITEM SONG. This one is named “CHADHTI JAWANI”. And for a change, after a long time, I liked an item song. There is a strong folk flavor, which is what works. Another thing that works is kanika joshi’s impressive singing. Add to that, a short cameo by bonnie chakraborty in the last 1 minute. Nothing extraordinary, but when every movie is belting out useless outdated item songs ALL sung by mamta sharma, this one is quite a respite. “SONIYE” – Contrary to your belief that this is a love song, let me tell you – this is a pa...

MUSIC REVIEW COCKTAIL

What has suddenly befallen pritam? Churning out massive hits one after the other. Well, my expectations from cocktail were humongous. With the two promo tracks making me crazy, i was looking forward to a cracker of an album. Does he deliver? Let's find out. *TUM HI HO BANDHU* the track which is already a sensation everywhere sees the very soulful kavita seth trying a new genre. And she aces it. One thing i loved about this song was the female lead's dominance over the male lead neeraj shridhar. It's good to see pritam do this, especially after composing all male singer dominated albums for the bhatts. The loop by neeraj is flawless. And so is the track. *DAARU DESI* starts with some nice guitar strings before benny dayal and shalmali 'pareshaan' kholgade take over. Average lyrics, some really good singing by both the singers and a really good tune with some addictive beats. This song again has already become a huge hit. Drums initiate the song *YAARIYAAN* sung b...

Music review Jannat 2

Expectations are humungous as the team of emraan-pritam-bhatt returns. In fact it is the team of emraan pritam and kunal deshmukh, whose previous both films- Jannat and Tum Mile have had brilliant music, me being a big fan of the latter. TU HI MERA sees pritam rope in shafqat amanat ali. Right from the initial guitar strings, you can experience the bhatt-ness. Pritam's tune is somewhere similar to his previous tracks, although i cant figure out which ones. Maybe pee loon. Thankfully,he doesn't keep the beats similar to pee loon, instead increases the tempo. That works! Great singing,as usual. This one is already making its way to the top of the charts. TERA DEEDAR HUA- i just cant get enough of this man. He is already having a fantastic year, with chaahat (blood money) being a really well sung song. Here Rahat Fateh Ali Khan goes really high on scale, and the result is pleasantly pleasant;-) a qawwalish atmosphere, this song is easily the best one in the album. Do listen. The...
