After the successful Tanu weds Manu, the trio of Aanand Rai - Krsna - Raj Shekhar is back to enthrall us. Let us see how they fare. “BANNO” is composed by guest composers Tanishk – Vayu. A folk number to the core, this one is a superb amalgamation of Punjabi and techno beats. Sung wonderfully by Brijesh Shandilya and Swati Sharma, the line “Banno tera swagger laage sexy (saxy)” is indeed a lyrical gem. Lyricist Vayu is the star of this song. The way he includes words like “swagger” and “sexy” in an out and out dance song is praiseworthy! This can very much be titled the “Saddi galli” of the sequel. From here on, Krsna takes charge of the remaining album. “MOVE ON” is a unique song. Its title is self explanatory, and Sunidhi’s voice has the much needed aggressiveness. A lyrically and musically creative song, Raj Shekhar writes some really good lyrics, while Krsna’s tune works very well. The way he uses the guitar, drums and other instruments is lovely. I am a big fan of both of Amish Tripathi’s novels. And as the day nears when he will unveil the concluding part of his trilogy, my excitement is only growing. And at such a time, the makers come up with an ingenious idea of releasing a soundtrack for the Shiva trilogy. One look at the cd cover and you know that there are big names attached to the songs. So I wait with bated breath and play the songs. Here’s my music review. The “SHIVA TRILOGY THEME NEELKANTH” as the name suggests is a four minute musical piece. The piece starts with an excellent flute rendition followed by a beautiful tune continued on the flute. Very haunting and rousing, this piece is the perfect beginning to the album. Taufiq Qureshi sets the atmosphere right from the first track. A piece which will be loved by those who love background music. “SHE ENTERS HIS LIFE” starts off with a brilliant Sanskrit shlok rendition. I have an unwritten rule while reviewing albums on my blog – To never review an album which has music by “Sajid Wajid”. They are the unbashed rulers of mediocrity (which has plummeted to new lows this year.) I mean, just have a look at the quality and even quantity of music they have given this year – Housefull 2 (Bad), Tezz (Bad), Rowdy Rathore (Bad), Teri meri Kahaani (Average), Kamaal dhamaal malamaal (Horrible), Ishkq in paris (Horrible), Ajab Gazabb love (Bad), Son of Sardar (Blah) – every album smells of repetitiveness and a zero in the creative and novelty department. However I make exceptions when salman khan is associated with sajid wajid. Reason? Well, they have a fairly good record with bhai. Starting from “Pyaar kiya toh darna kya” to “Ek tha tiger”, sajid wajid have given good (If not awesome), melodious and popular massy music for their godfather. The vikram bhatt – chirantan bhatt combo is one of my favorites. After dishing out the fairly engaging “Shaapit” and the brilliantly melodious “Haunted 3D”, now they are back for their third outing, a sequel to 1920, one of the genuinely scary movies I’ve seen in hindi cinema in recent times. For those who didn’t know, Vikram bhatt and Chirantan bhatt are cousin brothers. Their grandfather Vijay bhatt directed some classics like Ram rajya, Baiju Bawra and Himalay ki god mein. Chirantan’s father Arun Bhatt was a leading famous gujarati film director (Yep, he’s from aapnu Gujarat.) While the first one 1920 had music by Adnan sami who gave us some great melodies in the form of “Vaada” and “Tujhe main pyaar karoon”, let us see whether chirantan recreates the magic he wove with Haunted. “APNA MUJHE TU LAGAA” sees sonu nigam in his melodious best. “KAAFIRANA” is composed by guest composer Gaurav Dagaonkar (of the song College Days fame) who recently composed a song or two in vikram bhatt’s film “Lanka”. It is disgusting as to what heights the makers of this film are going to promote this song. The entire controversy about FAKHT and JUST is irritating and pointless. Coming back to the song, I expected something out of this world as it had “ THE” Chitrangada featuring in it. But the song is a big disappointment. It has nothing new to offer, only adding itself to the countless boring item songs this year. But if you consider silly beats and a beaten-to-death-tune as a rocking song, then you will like it. For me, I’d grudgingly listen to it only because the accompanying video features chitrangada. However, I’d prefer ALIVA and TAJ MAHAL CHAI ( maan gaye saif ) to this song anyday.
